Financial operations for churches & nonprofits

Your ministry is growing. Your back office should keep up.

Redwoods Stewardship becomes your finance department. We run your day-to-day financial operations and payroll, and give you a fractional CFO, so your leaders can stay focused on the mission instead of the spreadsheet.

What we do

One team for the whole finance function

Most organizations piece this together: a staff member wearing the finance hat, a payroll app, a CPA once a year, and a faithful volunteer holding it all. We bring it under one roof, set up the right way.

Financial Operations

The root system of your organization. New financial rhythms and processes that keep bills paid on schedule and giving recorded the way donors intended.

  • A weekly bill pay run and a monthly close on a set calendar
  • Accounts payable: vendors, W-9s and 1099s, spend cards and reimbursements
  • Giving, with restricted and designated funds tracked separately
  • Reconciled books, leadership reports and Form 990s

Payroll

Your people paid right, every time, with the church-specific details handled correctly.

  • Payroll processing, tax filings, W-2s and 1099s
  • Clergy housing allowances and Social Security opt-outs
  • Benefits enrollment and open enrollment coordination
  • Handbooks, role descriptions, onboarding and pay structure

Fractional CFO

Experienced financial leadership behind the decisions that shape your organization's future.

  • Annual budgeting and long-term financial planning
  • Board and elder reporting that turns numbers into decisions
  • Internal controls, audit prep and 990 support
  • Guidance on capital projects, debt and staffing decisions

Why ministries call us

Churches don't outgrow their people. They outgrow their processes.

The setup that got you here usually starts to strain somewhere past $1 million. It rarely breaks loudly. It shows up as a board question nobody can answer, a faithful staff member who can't take a vacation, or a restricted gift that quietly got spent.

People
Who else knows how to close the books?

One person holds the whole finance function

We build in backup and separation of duties from day one.

Funds
How much of this is actually ours to spend?

One bank balance, several different promises

We keep restricted and designated giving separate, so every dollar goes where it was promised.

Decisions
Can we afford a second hire in the spring?

The numbers only look backward

A budget your leaders own and a monthly board report turn guesses into clear answers.

Generosity grows where stewardship is trusted.
Why a team instead of a hire

Every seat in your finance department, filled

With Redwoods, each seat is filled by someone who does that job every day for organizations like yours, without the work of hiring, training and managing each role yourself.

How it works

Getting started takes three steps

1

Discovery

A conversation about your organization, your current setup and what keeps you up at night. We review your financials and come back with a clear scope and a flat monthly fee.

Free · about 30 minutes
2

Onboarding

We rebuild your chart of accounts so your finances line up with your ministry, set up new workflows and move you onto QuickBooks Online, with training for your staff along the way.

Typically 1-3 months
3

Monthly rhythm

Bills paid on a set schedule, payroll on time, a disciplined close and a board-ready report every month, with your CFO looking ahead instead of behind.

Ongoing

What ministry leaders say

For the first time, our leadership team actually understands the monthly report. The questions in our board meetings went from 'what does this mean' to 'what should we do.'
Executive Pastor · Multi-site church
We were months behind and dreading our audit. Redwoods caught us up, separated our restricted funds and the audit was the smoothest we've had.
Executive Director · International ministry
I used to be the bottleneck for every bill and every payroll question. Now I get a clear report, approve what matters and get back to leading.
Lead Pastor · Church plant
FAQ

Good questions we hear a lot

Don't see yours? Ask us on a call. We like the hard ones.

Who do you work with?

Churches and nonprofits, from growing church plants to multi-million-dollar ministries. That includes single-site and multi-site churches, church plants, international ministries and faith-based nonprofits.

Can we pick just one service, like payroll or a fractional CFO?

Yes. Some clients start with one piece. We see the best results when operations, payroll and CFO support run together, because one team means fewer handoffs, cleaner data and nothing falling through the cracks.

How is this different from our CPA firm?

Most CPA firms look at your numbers once a year for taxes or an audit. We run your finances every week and every month, so the books are accurate all year and you have someone to call when a decision comes up.

Do you understand church-specific finances?

It's all we do. Housing allowances, ministerial Social Security exemptions, designated vs. restricted giving, missions and benevolence funds, and board and elder reporting are everyday work for us.

How do you tailor the work to each organization?

No two ministries run the same way. We start by learning your structure, your funds, your approval chain and your season of growth, then shape the scope, the monthly rhythm and the reporting around you, not the other way around.

Let's talk about your back office

A 30-minute conversation about where things stand and what would help most. No pressure, and you'll leave with a clearer picture either way.
